Becoming a holisic vet

Years ago (it feels like a totally different life) I started an 4-years eduction to become a holistic vet. Together with a friend we signed up and started our first year. Every Tuesday morning we stepped in our car and drove 2 hours to our classes.

For a couple of reasons both of us ended the first year but decided not to finish this education.

  • We learned a lot but also had a good laugh. After a class about herbs with a professor raising his hands to the sky telling us how the flowers of a plants sang to the sun every morning, we couldn’t stop laughing and had to leave the class halfway. I still after 12 years have to laugh about it. At that moment we knew we were not the kind of people to finish this. Don’t get me wrong. We both believe in the abilities of plants, herbs etc. We just not see them laughing, signing or feeling. Maybe the way we think is too logical.
  • Second reason was that I would not be able to finish anyway because we decided to apply for permanent residency in Canada. Because it wasn’t very cheap to follow these classes it was no use for me to continue and my friend had no intention to do it alone. I have been looking around a bit to see if anything like that is offered here in Alberta but never really found something appropriate. Or it was ridiculous expensive.
  • For me, last reason was that I didn’t saw myself as a holistic vet working in Canada. Knowing that a lot of educations were not accepted in Canada (even my husband had to redo his exams as civil  engineer) why bother. I also knew that I had to be there for my kids for at least the first year to make the move to Canada work.

So no new career for me in that field. But working with herbs, oils, Bach, TTouch and horses was never forgotten. For now my new career is Young Living though.

Helping horses and dogs with holistic treatment will follow over time.

I am working on it.

Young Living Seed to Seal

Young Living is started by Gary Young in the USA as an essential oil marketing company. In the last 2 decades it is expended from just essential oils to essential oil blends and oil infused products. For me it is not only important that the oils are natural but how they work still, after all these years, surprise me.

The oil-infused products gave my family also a change to help to find our health back. All the products are natural, no chemicals added. I not only use their essential oils and blends but I also use their household cleaner (really great stuff), dish soap, laundry soap, toothpaste, shampoo, face scrub… do I have to go on? They have so much products nowadays.

I already was familiar with the essential oils, herbs, Bach and the holistic way of living but moving to Canada it all went to the background. After a couple of years I realized I was using so much ibuprofen and coming pass a post about becoming a distributor for Young Living made me think. Besides that I could use some extra money I also could use some different approach of the way I was living at the moment.

So I started to investigate. Looking around to see what Young Living is and if there are better companies. It didn’t took me long. Not only because there are not much companies in North America who are selling quality essential oils, but because they were around for a long time already, they are all over the world and they have their guaranty that their products are as pure as they say they are. So I made the choice to sign up and order their starter kit and try it. And I never regret it.

So what is the guaranty Young Living is giving their members? Years ago Gary Young decided to start his own farm and doing his own distillation. So he knew for sure that no chemicals were used while growing the crop. He knew how the harvest was done. He knew what happened during distillation.

Over the years he expanded the farms all over the world. As a Young Living member it is even possible to visit these farms or help them to bring the crop in. A unique experience for sure.

Because of this way of “making” the oils he knows that “nothing extra” is added.

Deep Relief

Young Living Deep Relief is an oil blend which has returned to Canada again lately. I loved it previously and I still love it. And I am happy it came back on the Canadian market again.

I used it primarily for my muscles after too much workout, but also when my muscles in my neck were tied up again and because of it headaches started again. Combined with PanAway it was a lifesaver when the pain was severe. One of the reasons why my ibuprofen use went down. I even used it for my horses.

A couple of the following essential oils are in DeepRelief:

  • Peppermint, used in aromatherapy to help relieve joint and muscle pain associated with sprains, strains, or rheumatoid arthritis, making this blend a great companion for your trips to the gym and busy daily routine.
  • Wintergreen, together with Peppermint the oils provide a refreshing, cooling sensation during or after a workout, with an invigorating scent that inspires an upbeat and energetic approach to whatever keeps you active.
  • Dorado Azul,
  • Helichrysum.

All these oils are known for their soothing and long-lasting benefits, to create a convenient blend ready for on-the-go use or when relaxing at home. In aromatherapy this blend is used topically or inhaled:

  • As a nervine and calmative, enhancing relaxation
  • As a carminative and antispasmodic for symptomatic relief of digestive discomfort
  • To help relieve colds and coughs

Young Living provide us with the following product tips:

  • Treat yourself to an on-the-go mini massage with Deep Relief oil along the nape of your neck and shoulders or onto any other area you choose.
  • Use the energizing scent during your gym session when you need a quick break. Swipe it across your neck, temples, forehead, or chest to recharge before you get back to work.
  • Keep Deep Relief in your office or living room for a quick pick-me-up and cool, refreshing relief.
  • Apply to your skin and enjoy the cooling sensation of Peppermint in this popular blend.

If you have joint and muscle pains on regular basis I can highly recommend this blend to you.

The oils still surprise me, and this is one of them.

Motivation

For a week now I so can’t find the motivation to do anything at all. Since my 2 day trip with Frans to Banff there is nothing. Can’t get my mind set to start working again. To do anything at all. No blogs, no finishing my e-book I started, no continuing of my course I am doing, no running. And that is probably (as I feel it) the worst part. I eat, and eat, and eat and sit behind the computer and do nothing. Well that’s not entirely true. I am gaining weight. And thanks to the dogs and horses I still move a little bit daily.

I kind of know what the reason is. After working hard for almost 3 months on my website, on landing-pages following advertisements, promoting myself every where, trying to get people interested in a night about essential oils, I still have nothing. No sign-ups, no sales, nothing. It so feels like a waste of time and money. And hearing from other people that they signed up people almost daily….. What am I doing wrong????

I know I have to see this as a learning curve. I know I should not compare myself to others.  I know I am to impatient.  I know it will take time to find customers. It will take time to get my name out there. I have to continue what I am doing.

Consistency is the key to successI can NOT give up!!!

And I should use my oil blend “Build your dream” more often. And I have to start running again. And the first blog is done now.Yeah!

7 Mistakes successful people don’t make again

I received an email this week from Success with an article from Kimanzi Constable about mistakes succesful people don’t make.

Reading the entire article (link is below) I must say I did do them all. Because of common sense and experience I realized they were mistakes and I won’t do it again. Some I am still working on.

What are these mistakes? This is the list:

  1. Successful people don’t allow toxic relationships into their life;
  2. Successful people don’t spend years doing work that doesn’t fulfill them;
  3. Successful people don’t let doubt and fear dedicate their choices;
  4. Successful people don’t chase other people’s dreams;
  5. Successful people don’t underestimate the power of physical fitness;
  6. Successful people don’t do things they know they don’t want to do;
  7. Successful people don’t copy someone else who is successful.

Personally I think nr.5 is a very important one. 20 Years ago I was so done with my weight and the way I looked that I started running. I still remember as if was yesterday how difficult it was for me to reach that first corner of the street. How I was completely out of breath. How after 3 month I realized that I passed that corner and the 2 after that without any problem. How I got addicted to running and kept on running everyday 6 times a week for an hour. How great I looked (dropped a couple of sizes), but most of all how great I felt.

I could handle any problem without stress, my confidence was sky-high, I never felt so good and happy. I had to run every day (10K) but I didn’t care.I loved it.

And that is the part which you need to be succesful, to reach your goals, to make your business succesful. And that is the part I have to work on again. I want to work on again. I want that feeling back again.

The only thing is, just as building your business, it takes a couple of years before you reach that point. I lost more than 20 lbs last year, just by starting to run again. I don’t have that addiction-feeling YET, but I will get there. And I will lose another 20 lbs this year. While I am building my business at the same time.

I agree that taking care of yourself is the best way to start to be succesful in your business, but also to be successful in your overall life.

Why Oils Canada:  Website    Facebook   Email: info@whyoils.ca

Getting desperate.

This last week the Young Living essential oil starter kit is on sale (10% off) and I am trying to sell it. I created 2(!) advertisements on Facebook and the reactions are really decent. But after 2.5 days I still haven’t found anybody who would make the next step and sign up and buy the kit. And I need a minimum of 4 people who would buy it to have the costs covered.

Why do they not sell? That is the big question and I have to figure it out. I probably expect to much. I probably should be happy if 1 or maybe 2 people sign up somewhere this week. I probably have to change the next step. Instead of having people go to an “sign up” link of Young Living, I probably should try to send them to a landing page and convince them from there to sign up. I think that I am going to try that. I have still 5 days till the “on sale” is over.

This is the problem with advertisement. You have to try different options to see what works best, and that cost time. Unfortunately, also money which I am a bit short on at the moment. I have fixed my goal for next month to finally earn some money and finally have $2000 on my bank account. I don’t think it is a very unreasonable goal. The only thing I start to believe is that I maybe should create some patience and set that goal for over 3 month. It’s just that I would love to see some results after 2 months of hard work.

Ending on a positive note:  I got 15 people who liked my Facebook page because of my ad’s.

Peppermint

There is a lot of information about peppermint. There are a lot of ways how you can use peppermint in your life.

Peppermint is native to Europe but at the moment 75% of world supply comes from the United States. Approximately one pound of peppermint plants is what you need to fill up an 15 ml bottle essential oils. It is extracted from the leaves and flowering tops of the plant by steam distillation.

The cooling effect you get from peppermint comes from the menthol which is a primary component of peppermint. It activates the same receptors on nerve endings that are involved in sensing cold.

So how can peppermint be used:

  • It can help to support a healthy digestive system. It also can help to take away hunger (great help when you like to lose some weight);
  • It can help to freshen up DIY cleaners. Just add some drops to your spray bottle;
  • It can be used with a massage after an excercise to cool down your muscles;
  • It can help to reduce the symptoms of a cold or cough;
  • It can help to reduce pain in your muscles or joint associated with sprains, strains and rheumatoid arthritis;
  • It can help to calm your nerves or calming children with ADHD;
  • Together with Lavender it is a great oil to cool and soothe any itch.

The list goes on and on. I just looked at a couple of websites to find information about peppermint but there is way more out there. Just Google it.

For me peppermint is number one to reduce my headaches. I just put some in my neck and I have the cooling feeling for hours which is generally enough to bring down the headache or get rid of it completely.

I have it in my bag permanently instead of the pills I used to take.

Visit in Camrose

Sunday we (Frans and I) went to Camrose to visit our daughter and girl friend. Both are attending the University of Alberta in Camrose. Both play basketball for Augustana, the university team. Shea is in her last year, Beliana has just started her second year and has still 3 year to go.

Once in a while we visit them and then combine it with watching a home game. Unfortunately that wasn’t possible this weekend because of the market I attended and Frans had to work too.

I was nice to visit them again. We hadn’t seen them since christmas and because of basketball they are always busy with training, basketball games and school. Because of a terrible headache they had to endure the air of peppermint through the entire visit though. But it worked for me. No pills necessary this time. Very proud of myself being an ibuprofen addict.

For an early diner we went to Edmonton instead of staying in Camrose to eat “all you can eat” indian food. Worst place to go to if you don’t train so much anymore as I do. I always seen to manage to eat way too much  at that kind of places. And because I don’t seem to find the energy or time lately I haven’t been running much the last couple of weeks either. Bad combination. Which at the moment is resulting in gaining weight instead of loosing. But that will change again soon.

Diner was good though and it gave us also the chance to meet Shea’s father. Her mother couldn’t come because of back problems. I told Beliana she should give Shea’s mother some of her big jar with coconut oil and essential oils which she uses for her muscles and joints. Funny thing is that Frans told her exactly the same when we left.

Anyhow… what would life be without essential oils. It gave me the opportunity to enjoy the day even more.

Market in Canmore

It has been a long day today. I spend the day in Canmore (Alberta) trying to have people sign-up for my newsletter.

Well that didn’t go so well. Nobody signed up. But I will get there. There are other ways to have people added to my list.

The market itself was fun. Lots of people passed by. A part was absolutely not interested, a lot were using essential oils already (not always YL but that’s alright). A surprisingly big amount didn’t know anything about the oils or just a bit. So there is still work to do.

I handed out a lot of brochures which I printed yesterday. I gave somebody a little pot with PanAway to try it out. I had somebody very interested in the starters kit. And I sold a bottle of Lavender. So overall not bad.

Now I only have to find out how I can make people sign up 😁

Feeling good

For weeks I have been so busy with everything that has to do with my work and with setting up and expanding my MLM business (Why Oils Canada).

My website is more than decent by now. I even have a pop-up screen to sign-up for my newsletter. I also can see how many people are visiting my website. And I added the option so that you can read my newsletter. I still have to add some content though. But that will come over time.

I also created and send out my first newsletter. I started with an email marketing platform (Sendlane) which didn’t work out. I had to start over 3 times because their editor just stopped working. First they didn’t know why, then it was because I just used  “strange” characters, then there was something else…. After 2 weeks (I think I have been extremely patient) I decided to change to ChimpMail. So nice. In a couple of days I made my newsletter and send it out, I made my sign-up form for Facebook and for my website. I created my thank-you form (when people sign up) and I deleted my account with Sendlane.

Now I am preparing myself for the market which I will attend saturday in Canmore (Ab). I am working on a pamphlet, sign-up sheet, sample’s, etc. I have attended markets before, but I wasn’t happy with the outcome from it so I just stopped instead of changing the way I was “selling” myself. Because I always had some bottles with Thieves household cleaner I just managed to get my costs covered, but that was basically it.  No customers or just interested people to keep in touch with.

So part of my new “ME”, I will attend a market once a month and get email addresses for my newsletters and certainly some new customers.

And I keep on using my little bottle “Build your dream” essential oil blend. That seems to work too.
