Balance

Balance in life is important. Not only mentally but also physically. These two go hand in hand. If you are not in balance mentally it will inflict your body. Working out will be difficult, eating the right food will be difficult and because of that cravings will start. And as a result you will feel terrible. Too much sugar is famous for these reactions. And it will only spiral down. Fast.

It is difficult to step out of this spiral and take control of your life again. You see a lot of people start the new year with all these resolutions. Loose weight, get more active. Unfortunately only a few will succeed. Why?

There are a lot of reasons. Lack of support is a big one. Expectations set too high is another one. Not really behind your goals is one. And this is not only with life changes. Starting a new business with Young Living like mine will give you the same problems. After a couple of disappointments you give up. Other people can do it, you are not fit for it. But that’s not true

Coming back to these life changes like loosing weight and starting a healthier life, there is a lot to say about it. You’ll ask experts what you have to do and everybody has something to say. So this is going to be my 2 cents.

Loosing weight is not just two words. It contains a lot more. You have to adapt to a totally new life style. Just jumping in and changing radically doesn’t work. You have to make little changes first. If you are not very prone to the excessive exercising where you sweat like crazy and are exhausted at the end, then don’t do it. It won’t be very healthy for you anyway. Better is to just start moving. Take the dog for a walk for just 10 minutes (longer), park the car as far away from the supermarket as you can, take the stairs instead of the elevator (or just one stairs and the rest with the elevator). Take the stairs going down. Be inventive. Look around what you can do extra.

A step counter is a great way to help you to move just a bit more. Have a look at how many steps you take on a normal day. Keep track of it for a week. Then try to raise these step with 500 or 1000 a day more. 3 Times a week. That will be your first small step. After  a month you know for sure that it has started to be a habit and you can upgrade it to more days a week and/or more steps a day.

And then there is that dreadful food. Biggest mistake a lot of people make is assuming that because they started moving they can eat more. Or take an extra glass of wine. It is setting yourself up for disappointment. Don’t do that to yourself.

Don’t start to eat less drastically either and be hungry all the time. Your body has to adapt to this. Your mind aswell. What you can do is trying to change that snack at 2 o’clock for something healthier. Eat some fruit or vegetables. Drink tea or coffee or water (NOT soda). Or go do something so you have burn those calories. Or set an alarm 2 hours later and make the deal with yourself that this will be the time you can eat it. Most times you don’t really want it anymore.

But even more important DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP IF YOU STILL GRAB THAT UNHEALTHY SNACK.

Your mind is used to eating it, and your mind is very powerful when it comes to preventing changes.

What also helps a lot is getting a journal and write down everything that you eat. Make a habit out of it. Don’t add calories or how much sugar or fat it contains. Not important for now. Just have an honest look at what you eat. It will also give you some insight on where you can make some changes. Keep focused on changing what you eat. Also, don’t look at a scale for some time and don’t expect to lose 2 sizes in one month. It won’t happen.

Young Living can help you with finding your balance too. Especially the US market has a lot of foods, supplements, snacks, etc. which you can use. Oils can help aswell. Keep you focussed and keep you motivated. Google how they can help you. There is so much information out there what you can use. Or you can ask by emailing me and I can send you in the right direction.

This blog is based on my own experiences. This is not an advice what you have to do to feel better. This is my experience. I am not a doctor. What I can advice is to visit your family doctor before you start exercising.

Starting a healthier life

While I was making another blog I just started to think about this. Starting a healthier life. Some people know exactly how to start a healthier life, some people have no clue, most people never thought about it or try to ignore it.

I am on this world already for over half a century and I have done thing to destroy my health but also to get a better health. I didn’t really learn it from my parents how to lead a healthy life. I learned to eat my vegetables and eat fruit. I learned to go to school, to get an education and to learn to take care of myself. Get married and get children (or not). And after a long time your life will end. That’s it. The circle of life. Just do it. Don’t think about it.

Looking around I can see that the way people live is getting worse every decade. More and more people get allergies. More and more people are overweight. More and more people are depressed. More and more people have all kind of diseases like asthma, cancer, etc. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe I just hear more about it because of the present technologie, social media, internet in general. I don’t know. Still I think that humanity is spiralling downward fast.

I hope I still can teach my children that they can always start to improve their life. Starting with Young Living products was for me one of the steps I could make. But of course it’s not only essential oils. Looking after what you eat is important too. Moving more is another one. Gaining muscle and loosing fat.

My father used to be a vet and when he got another dog patient with HD/arthritis in the hips he always gave the same advice. No you don’t get painkillers yet because the dog won’t feel the pain anymore and he will make it worse. First get that dog moving. Get on your bike and have him run next to you. Or start running yourself with the dog. No sudden movements, just straight lines. Just to gain muscles and lose weight. Both will take of the pressure of the joints. And they are good for the dogs’ boss too. People should get that advice too from their doctors.

So what can you do about your food? Eat vegetables. Do you eat 200 gram a day? That is a lot. Do you eat 2 pieces of fruit a day? I normally spread it out over the day and when I finish my lunch and diner I am stuffed. Another one is to start with reducing the amount of meat you eat. Better for the environment too. Years ago I heard that 75 gram of meat a day for somebody who doesn’t excercise is more than enough. So eating that bacon in the morning is fine, eating that sandwich for lunch with ham or beef is fine. Eating that hamburger as diner is fine. Just not all at the same day!!

Is there more you can do about your food? For sure. Try to avoid the processed food like ham, bacon and cereals. Try to reduce the amount of food where farmers used all these chemicals to have it look beautiful and to keep it looking like that while in the stores. I know it is not always possible to do financial, but be inventive. Eat organic once a week instead of everyday. Go to markets. Go talk to a green farmer. Look around and see what your options are. Reduce your chemical intake.

And then that last dreadful thing. Working out. Did you know you that most people don’t even really have to start working out to lose weight? Go for a 20 minute walk 5 times a week and you are well on your way. And I mean a real walk, a constant walk. A walk which makes you feel warm and even maybe sweat a bit. That would be a great start already.

I know I am not perfect either. I love to run but get busy with other things and it starts to slip. I also love my glass of wine, my chips once in a while and that lovely cookie. I know I am still overweight but I also know that I made a lot of small changes over the year. Changes which not only made me lose 20 lbs, but also keep it off and gain energy. Energy to start my business. To do fun things. And I know, just like starting a business the beginning is difficult. But you can make changes to start small. Bit by bit.

The most important part is that you have to believe in yourself.

Young Living can help you with removing the chemicals out of your cabinets and to eat healthier and get more energy. They helped me to start the change. My health is more and more important to me now I am getting older. I would like to be in my own house till the day I die. Taking care of myself. Instead of living in a nursing home. You should think like that too!

Motivation

For a week now I so can’t find the motivation to do anything at all. Since my 2 day trip with Frans to Banff there is nothing. Can’t get my mind set to start working again. To do anything at all. No blogs, no finishing my e-book I started, no continuing of my course I am doing, no running. And that is probably (as I feel it) the worst part. I eat, and eat, and eat and sit behind the computer and do nothing. Well that’s not entirely true. I am gaining weight. And thanks to the dogs and horses I still move a little bit daily.

I kind of know what the reason is. After working hard for almost 3 months on my website, on landing-pages following advertisements, promoting myself every where, trying to get people interested in a night about essential oils, I still have nothing. No sign-ups, no sales, nothing. It so feels like a waste of time and money. And hearing from other people that they signed up people almost daily….. What am I doing wrong????

I know I have to see this as a learning curve. I know I should not compare myself to others.  I know I am to impatient.  I know it will take time to find customers. It will take time to get my name out there. I have to continue what I am doing.

Consistency is the key to successI can NOT give up!!!

And I should use my oil blend “Build your dream” more often. And I have to start running again. And the first blog is done now.Yeah!

7 Mistakes successful people don’t make again

I received an email this week from Success with an article from Kimanzi Constable about mistakes succesful people don’t make.

Reading the entire article (link is below) I must say I did do them all. Because of common sense and experience I realized they were mistakes and I won’t do it again. Some I am still working on.

What are these mistakes? This is the list:

  1. Successful people don’t allow toxic relationships into their life;
  2. Successful people don’t spend years doing work that doesn’t fulfill them;
  3. Successful people don’t let doubt and fear dedicate their choices;
  4. Successful people don’t chase other people’s dreams;
  5. Successful people don’t underestimate the power of physical fitness;
  6. Successful people don’t do things they know they don’t want to do;
  7. Successful people don’t copy someone else who is successful.

Personally I think nr.5 is a very important one. 20 Years ago I was so done with my weight and the way I looked that I started running. I still remember as if was yesterday how difficult it was for me to reach that first corner of the street. How I was completely out of breath. How after 3 month I realized that I passed that corner and the 2 after that without any problem. How I got addicted to running and kept on running everyday 6 times a week for an hour. How great I looked (dropped a couple of sizes), but most of all how great I felt.

I could handle any problem without stress, my confidence was sky-high, I never felt so good and happy. I had to run every day (10K) but I didn’t care.I loved it.

And that is the part which you need to be succesful, to reach your goals, to make your business succesful. And that is the part I have to work on again. I want to work on again. I want that feeling back again.

The only thing is, just as building your business, it takes a couple of years before you reach that point. I lost more than 20 lbs last year, just by starting to run again. I don’t have that addiction-feeling YET, but I will get there. And I will lose another 20 lbs this year. While I am building my business at the same time.

I agree that taking care of yourself is the best way to start to be succesful in your business, but also to be successful in your overall life.

Visit in Camrose

Sunday we (Frans and I) went to Camrose to visit our daughter and girl friend. Both are attending the University of Alberta in Camrose. Both play basketball for Augustana, the university team. Shea is in her last year, Beliana has just started her second year and has still 3 year to go.

Once in a while we visit them and then combine it with watching a home game. Unfortunately that wasn’t possible this weekend because of the market I attended and Frans had to work too.

I was nice to visit them again. We hadn’t seen them since christmas and because of basketball they are always busy with training, basketball games and school. Because of a terrible headache they had to endure the air of peppermint through the entire visit though. But it worked for me. No pills necessary this time. Very proud of myself being an ibuprofen addict.

For an early diner we went to Edmonton instead of staying in Camrose to eat “all you can eat” indian food. Worst place to go to if you don’t train so much anymore as I do. I always seen to manage to eat way too much  at that kind of places. And because I don’t seem to find the energy or time lately I haven’t been running much the last couple of weeks either. Bad combination. Which at the moment is resulting in gaining weight instead of loosing. But that will change again soon.

Diner was good though and it gave us also the chance to meet Shea’s father. Her mother couldn’t come because of back problems. I told Beliana she should give Shea’s mother some of her big jar with coconut oil and essential oils which she uses for her muscles and joints. Funny thing is that Frans told her exactly the same when we left.

Anyhow… what would life be without essential oils. It gave me the opportunity to enjoy the day even more.

What is an NHP?

NHP means Natural Health Products.

According to Health Canada’s website “Natural health products (NHPs) are naturally occurring substances that are used to restore or maintain good health. They are often made from plants, but can also be made from animals, microorganisms and marine sources. They come in a wide variety of forms like tablets, capsules, tinctures, solutions, creams, ointments and drops.” (http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/prodnatur/index-eng.php)

For certain Young Living essential oils this means that Health Canada determined that sufficient scientific evidence exists to substantiate that these oils can help restore, maintain, or improve health.

Young Living can provide you with essential oils as a natural alternative to relief you for:

  • Headache
  • Acne
  • Cough or cold
  • Eczema and Dermatitis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis, Strains, or Sprains
  • Digestive Discomfort
  • Burns, Cuts, Bruises, and Other Minor Skin Irritations
  • Stressed and Uptight

Young Living’s NHP registered oils will have a Natural Product Number (NPN) that will appear on the label. Which according to Health Canada’s website means, “… that the product has been authorized for sale in Canada and is safe and effective when used according to the instructions on the label.” In addition, NHP registered oils will display an expiration date. Young Living Canada’s NHP oils are currently registered under a three year expiry. Rest assured, there has been no change to the raw materials used to create our essential oils, or the way our oils are distilled, bottled, stored, or shipped. However, the registration of oils as NHPs means the addition of an expiry is required to ensure we meet all Health Canada requirements

Looking for a natural alternative?

Years ago I started an education to become a holistic vet in the Netherlands. Unfortunately something like that is not offered here in Canada and because we were all busy with starting our new life I forgot about it and i didn’t finish it. Which also meanes I forgot about my passion for the alternative of holistic way of living.

A couple of years ago it came back after somebody placed an ad on Facebook that she was looking for distributors for Young Living Essential Oils. Because I had learned during my education that not every company has good and/or pure oils I started to look around and see what I could find about essential oils sold at the Canadian market. Just a couple of companies had their prove of good quality oils but Young Living just gave me the best feeling.

So I decided to sign up and buy their starter kit to see what kind of oils they have and how good they would do their job. And

And I wasn’t disappointed.

“Young Living Essential Oils empowers you to dodge harmful chemicals, enrich your life, and reclaim your natural radiance. Young Living Canada’s Natural Health Products provide natural options to help support everyday ailments. Not only does Young Living provide 100% pure, quality essential oils, but we’re giving you choices.”
