Ups and Downs

I am a human being. I am not perfect and I have my ups and downs. Some weeks I have more downs then ups. Some weeks it’s the other way around. I am working hard to create a life with more ups than downs. A life that when the downs enter my life it will only be for a short time.

My entire life I have chosen the easy way out. If someone told me what to do or that I couldn’t do it, I accepted that without questioning the reason why. I just lived my life. Of course sometimes I still tried to do what I wanted, but with the first barrier I backed out and gave up. Or left it for “later”. I think that is called procrastinating.

It took me 50 years to slowly change and to see things differently. A couple of years ago I started working at a company as document controller. Something I had never done before. After barely a year I realized that I was good at it and that I was even better than most of my colleagues. That gave me a great feeling and I realized I could exceed in this job. It wasn’t exactly my dream job and after being let go when the economy went down  I had to find something else.

Faith is like Wi-Fi. It’s invisible but has the power to connect you to what you need – Unknown

It was at that moment that Young Living came into my life. Although it took me some years to realize that a great oppertunity was right in front of me, I started to be really serious only 4 months ago. Slowly I started to learn what I have to do and how I can do it. Slowly I am getting confidence that this is my chance and that I can proof to my past that I’m good in something.

So I will reach my goals this year!!

Toxic products

Did you ever read a label on your skin care products or your shampoo? How many ingredients do you recognize?  Do you know all the other ones, especially the ones with names you can’t even pronounce? Did you ever google them? Better not, because if you google them you also find out what it can do to your body.

I know if you ask Google things related to your health you basically die of a heart attack or cancer. The sad thing Google is probably not far off. Nowadays there are so many chemicals in all the products you use that it must reflect on your health on the long-term. I know that it is not possible to control everything, like air pollution or what’s in your water coming out of the tap. But by reading the labels of all the products you use and not only the food labels you can keep yourself healthier on the long term.

That’s the reason why I choose the Young Living products. They are non-toxic, chemical free products and all plant-based. Going through my house you see the products everywhere. I changed all the cleaning products for Thieves household cleaner. I am using Young Living toothpaste, Young Living hand soap, Young Living Laundry soap, Young Living dish soap, Young Living shampoo, Young Living skin care…. and the list goes on. And of course I use the oils. For my headaches, when we are sick, for muscle and joint pains. And not only we humans are using it, the dogs and horses are under my spell too. The dog has arthritis in his hips and for him I bought some supplements to add to his feed. After a few days I already noticed a difference. It will never be better but he did get some extra years on his lease.

Using these non-toxic, chemical-free, plant-based products is of course not the only thing you have to do to create a healthier life for yourself and family. Food and exercise is extremely important too.

Recently I heard about a lady in the US who started to change her life by changing her food and introducing Young Living products to her household a couple of years ago. Her name is Sarah Harnish. She and her husband and children are not only feeling a lot better and healthier, she also started to share her amazing story with other people and convinced a lot of people to change their lives too. Her Young Living business exploded, she helped an enormous amount of people but now she also has the time to relax and enjoy her life and health again.

This is an audio to listen to from her about her life and why she choose Young Living. Let me know what you think of it.

Familyday in Alberta.

The holiday was first celebrated in 1990. Alberta was the only province to have a statutory holiday in February until Saskatchewan began observing it in 2007.

The holiday was proclaimed by Lieutenant Governor Helen Hunley, on the advice of her premier, Don Getty. Premier Getty said it was important for Albertans to spend time with their families, and that this holiday would emphasize the importance of family values.

Getty faced considerable criticism at the time; many employers felt an additional statutory holiday was an unnecessary financial burden. In response, Heritage Day was downgraded to a civic holiday, meaning employers would not be required to observe it. Under Alberta law, the employer may choose to observe Heritage Day as a general holiday, under which rules applying to general holiday pay will be used.

Personally I don’t think a father should need a day in the year to be force to spend time with their family. A father should be their for their kids the year round. Make time on regular basis to spend time with their children.

My husband always has been there. From day one he changed diapers. Almost every night he took them to bed. He played with them. He went to school activities. He was always interested in what they did. When I had something to do outside the house and asked him to babysit the children he always corrected me that you can’t babysit your own children. You take care of them no matter what. He still text them or has them on the phone. Plays games with them or is having discussions with them. And he always worked hard too.

So this special day named familyday isn’t different from other days for us. He is building a storage space in the basement, my oldest is gone for the day with her boy friend, my youngest is hanging out in front of the tv. Tonight the 3 of us will have diner together and we will enjoy each other. Be a family.

This can also be a reason to start a business from home. As a mom it is a great way to be home with the kids and still earn some extra (or more) cash. For me number 1 reason is to be able to pay off the mortgage and have a lot of extra money so my husband can retire sooner. Would that not be great? Sometimes I wished I had started with Young Living 10 years ago. On the other hand I still have more than 10 year till I reach the age of retirement so I still have a lot of years to build and keep building my business.

Are you considering working from home? Just do it. I work for a company with a great compensation plan and great products. Investment is minimal. You don’t need to buy yourself in into a franchise. You don’t need childcare. You can do work whenever you want. What more do you want? The only think you really have to do is believe in yourself and go for it.

Just do it and don’t give up!!

Starting a healthier life

While I was making another blog I just started to think about this. Starting a healthier life. Some people know exactly how to start a healthier life, some people have no clue, most people never thought about it or try to ignore it.

I am on this world already for over half a century and I have done thing to destroy my health but also to get a better health. I didn’t really learn it from my parents how to lead a healthy life. I learned to eat my vegetables and eat fruit. I learned to go to school, to get an education and to learn to take care of myself. Get married and get children (or not). And after a long time your life will end. That’s it. The circle of life. Just do it. Don’t think about it.

Looking around I can see that the way people live is getting worse every decade. More and more people get allergies. More and more people are overweight. More and more people are depressed. More and more people have all kind of diseases like asthma, cancer, etc. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe I just hear more about it because of the present technologie, social media, internet in general. I don’t know. Still I think that humanity is spiralling downward fast.

I hope I still can teach my children that they can always start to improve their life. Starting with Young Living products was for me one of the steps I could make. But of course it’s not only essential oils. Looking after what you eat is important too. Moving more is another one. Gaining muscle and loosing fat.

My father used to be a vet and when he got another dog patient with HD/arthritis in the hips he always gave the same advice. No you don’t get painkillers yet because the dog won’t feel the pain anymore and he will make it worse. First get that dog moving. Get on your bike and have him run next to you. Or start running yourself with the dog. No sudden movements, just straight lines. Just to gain muscles and lose weight. Both will take of the pressure of the joints. And they are good for the dogs’ boss too. People should get that advice too from their doctors.

So what can you do about your food? Eat vegetables. Do you eat 200 gram a day? That is a lot. Do you eat 2 pieces of fruit a day? I normally spread it out over the day and when I finish my lunch and diner I am stuffed. Another one is to start with reducing the amount of meat you eat. Better for the environment too. Years ago I heard that 75 gram of meat a day for somebody who doesn’t excercise is more than enough. So eating that bacon in the morning is fine, eating that sandwich for lunch with ham or beef is fine. Eating that hamburger as diner is fine. Just not all at the same day!!

Is there more you can do about your food? For sure. Try to avoid the processed food like ham, bacon and cereals. Try to reduce the amount of food where farmers used all these chemicals to have it look beautiful and to keep it looking like that while in the stores. I know it is not always possible to do financial, but be inventive. Eat organic once a week instead of everyday. Go to markets. Go talk to a green farmer. Look around and see what your options are. Reduce your chemical intake.

And then that last dreadful thing. Working out. Did you know you that most people don’t even really have to start working out to lose weight? Go for a 20 minute walk 5 times a week and you are well on your way. And I mean a real walk, a constant walk. A walk which makes you feel warm and even maybe sweat a bit. That would be a great start already.

I know I am not perfect either. I love to run but get busy with other things and it starts to slip. I also love my glass of wine, my chips once in a while and that lovely cookie. I know I am still overweight but I also know that I made a lot of small changes over the year. Changes which not only made me lose 20 lbs, but also keep it off and gain energy. Energy to start my business. To do fun things. And I know, just like starting a business the beginning is difficult. But you can make changes to start small. Bit by bit.

The most important part is that you have to believe in yourself.

Young Living can help you with removing the chemicals out of your cabinets and to eat healthier and get more energy. They helped me to start the change. My health is more and more important to me now I am getting older. I would like to be in my own house till the day I die. Taking care of myself. Instead of living in a nursing home. You should think like that too!

Becoming a holisic vet

Years ago (it feels like a totally different life) I started an 4-years eduction to become a holistic vet. Together with a friend we signed up and started our first year. Every Tuesday morning we stepped in our car and drove 2 hours to our classes.

For a couple of reasons both of us ended the first year but decided not to finish this education.

  • We learned a lot but also had a good laugh. After a class about herbs with a professor raising his hands to the sky telling us how the flowers of a plants sang to the sun every morning, we couldn’t stop laughing and had to leave the class halfway. I still after 12 years have to laugh about it. At that moment we knew we were not the kind of people to finish this. Don’t get me wrong. We both believe in the abilities of plants, herbs etc. We just not see them laughing, signing or feeling. Maybe the way we think is too logical.
  • Second reason was that I would not be able to finish anyway because we decided to apply for permanent residency in Canada. Because it wasn’t very cheap to follow these classes it was no use for me to continue and my friend had no intention to do it alone. I have been looking around a bit to see if anything like that is offered here in Alberta but never really found something appropriate. Or it was ridiculous expensive.
  • For me, last reason was that I didn’t saw myself as a holistic vet working in Canada. Knowing that a lot of educations were not accepted in Canada (even my husband had to redo his exams as civil  engineer) why bother. I also knew that I had to be there for my kids for at least the first year to make the move to Canada work.

So no new career for me in that field. But working with herbs, oils, Bach, TTouch and horses was never forgotten. For now my new career is Young Living though.

Helping horses and dogs with holistic treatment will follow over time.

I am working on it.

Young Living Seed to Seal

Young Living is started by Gary Young in the USA as an essential oil marketing company. In the last 2 decades it is expended from just essential oils to essential oil blends and oil infused products. For me it is not only important that the oils are natural but how they work still, after all these years, surprise me.

The oil-infused products gave my family also a change to help to find our health back. All the products are natural, no chemicals added. I not only use their essential oils and blends but I also use their household cleaner (really great stuff), dish soap, laundry soap, toothpaste, shampoo, face scrub… do I have to go on? They have so much products nowadays.

I already was familiar with the essential oils, herbs, Bach and the holistic way of living but moving to Canada it all went to the background. After a couple of years I realized I was using so much ibuprofen and coming pass a post about becoming a distributor for Young Living made me think. Besides that I could use some extra money I also could use some different approach of the way I was living at the moment.

So I started to investigate. Looking around to see what Young Living is and if there are better companies. It didn’t took me long. Not only because there are not much companies in North America who are selling quality essential oils, but because they were around for a long time already, they are all over the world and they have their guaranty that their products are as pure as they say they are. So I made the choice to sign up and order their starter kit and try it. And I never regret it.

So what is the guaranty Young Living is giving their members? Years ago Gary Young decided to start his own farm and doing his own distillation. So he knew for sure that no chemicals were used while growing the crop. He knew how the harvest was done. He knew what happened during distillation.

Over the years he expanded the farms all over the world. As a Young Living member it is even possible to visit these farms or help them to bring the crop in. A unique experience for sure.

Because of this way of “making” the oils he knows that “nothing extra” is added.

Time management

When I started this blog I wanted to share my life. But thinking it over I realized my life was not just one stream of stories but was divided in 3 parts which were all connected to each other.

First of course I have my family. Married 25 years ago, 3 great daughters and a great husband is part one. I love them all but the taking care of them isn’t much of a challenge. Especially not now the children are all adults (18+), at school or at work all day. I clean the house a bit, do the laundry, make diner and do groceries some times. I have a stake of books in my bedroom (I have to sell them or give them away) which I started last year. I finished them all and added them to the stack on regular basis. No book under the 300 pages. So I read a lot.

Second part of my life are the animals and most of that time goes to the horses. Unfortunately not time spend riding them but time spend on mucking stalls, feeding, repairing and building. I just read a nice post from another blogger with the same “problem”. She is also taking care of boarding horses and got the question from someone if it is fun to take care of your own horse by yourself or if it is better to board it somewhere else. This week the temperature  is around the minus 20 (feels like minus 30). What do you think?? Okay not completely true. Despite the harsh temperatures I still like to do it. (Most of the time.)

Third part is setting up my business (yes MLM is business), trying to find customers, trying to figure out what works for me and trying not to give in into all my doubts. And that is the hardest part.

The 3 of course interact. I can’t do 2 hours one thing, then 2 hours the next, then 2 hours the third.Generally I start in the morning with feeding the cats, taking the dogs for a walk and letting the horses out and feeding them. That takes up my first hour and then I am ready for the oh-so-needed coffee and breakfast.

Till 2pm I can fill in my agenda as I like. Then I kind of repeat the above. Taking the dogs for a walk and feeding the horses. Depending on my mood, energy levels and/or weather, I will muck the stalls and have all the hay ready for the night too. But on regular basis I leave that for 7.30pm when we bring the horses in, because then I have Darya who almost always helps me with everything and on regular basis Frederique and Brandon are doing the water. So yes 7.30pm is round 3 for horses and dogs. Bringing the horses in for the night and feeding them.

So 3.5-4 hours a day is spend on the necessity of taking care of the animals. 3 hours is breakfast, lunch and (making) diner. (I know. I take my time.)  When I go for a run I spend 1.5 hours on running/taking a shower. Leaves me with 6 hours for everything else. Good thing that my business is a part-time job lol.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because time-management is really important part of your life if your like to reach a goal. Finish a course. Finish college. Finish your assignment. etc. I really need to focus on time management. I have my agenda filled in with every half hour of what to do. Otherwise I slip and forget things or just extend my breaks or miss deadlines I set up for myself.

Procrastinating tasks is very easy. For me it just means I lose a day.

If you have the same problem as I have I would say use a huge agenda and fill it in. Don’t leave any blank spots. Go for it. Unless of course you like your life as it is now…..
