Why are Young Living oils so expensive?

I get this question a lot. “Why are the oils so expensive? I buy my oils at Shoppers/Bulk barn/…(other store).. which is way cheaper. Why should I buy your oils?”

The first couple of times someone asked me this question, I got angry. Which is ofcoure never a good solution to any argument. Then I changed my approach. First, I noticed that most people who buy the cheap store oils are 100% sure that the oils they buy are great oils. Also, a lot of people use the cheap oils just to have their house smell nice. They use it instead of the candles or other air fresheners because someone told them once that candles are not healthy. They don’t use essential oils or other alternative solutions to create a healthier life. They just go for the smell.

Now I just ask them to use common sense and to read the labels. I ask them if the label says that the product contains is just one ingredient, or if there are multiple added? Does the label give a warning that as soon as you ingest it you’re required to call the poison centre immediately? This would already be a give away that these oils aren’t as pure as they are advertised to be.Of course, I realize that some peoples first intention is not always to create a healthier life. But, I can point out that using oils to freshen up the air is great, but if it includes harmfull chemicals your health could be at risk.

Another approach is asking if they use olive oil for cooking. I use it a lot and try to use the more expensive kind as it tends to be of better quality. To save money, I often wait till it is on sale. Most people agree with me that good quality is indeed expensive. When I tell them that you need 4-8kg of olives (approximately 1000 olives) to make 1 liter of oil and that 1 tree only has olives for 5 liters, they start to understand the reasons for the high cost. I then continue to tell them that the same applies for essential oils. In order to make 15ml of lemon-oil, you need 75 lemons. In order to make 15ml of lavender-oil, you need a 27 square feet field filled with lavender. I try to help them realize that it is impossible to produce pure 15ml Lavender oil for only 3 dollars.

Of course nobody will sign up with Young Living on the spot when I tell them this. But my hope is that next time they reach for that cheap bottle of oil, they will think of me. Then I have atleast accomplished that they will start thinking about their health somewhat. The next time I meet them, I can then talk with them again about changing their lives and living a more healthier lifestyle.

That is my goal for now: Making people more aware about what they can change their live for the better

Ups and Downs

I am a human being. I am not perfect and I have my ups and downs. Some weeks I have more downs then ups. Some weeks it’s the other way around. I am working hard to create a life with more ups than downs. A life that when the downs enter my life it will only be for a short time.

My entire life I have chosen the easy way out. If someone told me what to do or that I couldn’t do it, I accepted that without questioning the reason why. I just lived my life. Of course sometimes I still tried to do what I wanted, but with the first barrier I backed out and gave up. Or left it for “later”. I think that is called procrastinating.

It took me 50 years to slowly change and to see things differently. A couple of years ago I started working at a company as document controller. Something I had never done before. After barely a year I realized that I was good at it and that I was even better than most of my colleagues. That gave me a great feeling and I realized I could exceed in this job. It wasn’t exactly my dream job and after being let go when the economy went down  I had to find something else.

It was at that moment that Young Living came into my life. Although it took me some years to realize that a great oppertunity was right in front of me, I started to be really serious only 4 months ago. Slowly I started to learn what I have to do and how I can do it. Slowly I am getting confidence that this is my chance and that I can proof to my past that I’m good in something.

So I will reach my goals this year!!

Consistency

Consistency is extremely important if you want to make it as an entrepreneur. Especially when you just started your business. It doesn’t matter what kind of business you have. If you advertise or are on Facebook pages people will only remember you when or if they see your name on regular basis. Which means you have to be out there. Every day at least once.

If you are not out there, if you are not consistent in bringing your name out, people will forget you. In my case if I am on a Facebook page once in a while to advertise my oils nobody will remember my name. Simply because it is not a common name, which makes it difficult to remember. They will remember my products and as soon as they decide to try an oil or if they like to sign up, they will find someone else.

So post something. Every day, at the same time. Like my blog. And as soon as it is published I have it appear on Twitter and Facebook too. So if I don’t make a post on my facebook page, I still have something. It doesn’t matter if it has anything to do with my business. They will see my name.

I know it is difficult to keep up with that. When I started I just had no clue what to write about. But for some reason I seem to find a subject every day. Or more once a week. Because that is the nice thing of all these social media platforms. You can schedule posts. When I am on a roll I just keep going. And you don’t have to make essays. Just an inspirational quote or something you just did or experienced is enough.

But I am not perfect and like last week I just lacked the motivation to do something. And before you know it a week has passed. Waste of time? Yes. But don’t beat yourself up over it. Pick up yourself and start again. It won’t be the last time something happens like that. It will happen over and over again. The time in between will just be longer and longer. And that is what you need to achieve. That is what you need to keep going. Especially in that dreaded first year.

So have fun with your business. Write about it. Post about it. Tell everybody what you do, how you do it and what your product(s) are. Success will follow!!

Motivation

For a week now I so can’t find the motivation to do anything at all. Since my 2 day trip with Frans to Banff there is nothing. Can’t get my mind set to start working again. To do anything at all. No blogs, no finishing my e-book I started, no continuing of my course I am doing, no running. And that is probably (as I feel it) the worst part. I eat, and eat, and eat and sit behind the computer and do nothing. Well that’s not entirely true. I am gaining weight. And thanks to the dogs and horses I still move a little bit daily.

I kind of know what the reason is. After working hard for almost 3 months on my website, on landing-pages following advertisements, promoting myself every where, trying to get people interested in a night about essential oils, I still have nothing. No sign-ups, no sales, nothing. It so feels like a waste of time and money. And hearing from other people that they signed up people almost daily….. What am I doing wrong????

I know I have to see this as a learning curve. I know I should not compare myself to others.  I know I am to impatient.  I know it will take time to find customers. It will take time to get my name out there. I have to continue what I am doing.

Consistency is the key to successI can NOT give up!!!

And I should use my oil blend “Build your dream” more often. And I have to start running again. And the first blog is done now.Yeah!

Getting desperate.

This last week the Young Living essential oil starter kit is on sale (10% off) and I am trying to sell it. I created 2(!) advertisements on Facebook and the reactions are really decent. But after 2.5 days I still haven’t found anybody who would make the next step and sign up and buy the kit. And I need a minimum of 4 people who would buy it to have the costs covered.

Why do they not sell? That is the big question and I have to figure it out. I probably expect to much. I probably should be happy if 1 or maybe 2 people sign up somewhere this week. I probably have to change the next step. Instead of having people go to an “sign up” link of Young Living, I probably should try to send them to a landing page and convince them from there to sign up. I think that I am going to try that. I have still 5 days till the “on sale” is over.

This is the problem with advertisement. You have to try different options to see what works best, and that cost time. Unfortunately, also money which I am a bit short on at the moment. I have fixed my goal for next month to finally earn some money and finally have $2000 on my bank account. I don’t think it is a very unreasonable goal. The only thing I start to believe is that I maybe should create some patience and set that goal for over 3 month. It’s just that I would love to see some results after 2 months of hard work.

Ending on a positive note:  I got 15 people who liked my Facebook page because of my ad’s.

Market in Canmore

It has been a long day today. I spend the day in Canmore (Alberta) trying to have people sign-up for my newsletter.

Well that didn’t go so well. Nobody signed up. But I will get there. There are other ways to have people added to my list.

The market itself was fun. Lots of people passed by. A part was absolutely not interested, a lot were using essential oils already (not always YL but that’s alright). A surprisingly big amount didn’t know anything about the oils or just a bit. So there is still work to do.

I handed out a lot of brochures which I printed yesterday. I gave somebody a little pot with PanAway to try it out. I had somebody very interested in the starters kit. And I sold a bottle of Lavender. So overall not bad.

Now I only have to find out how I can make people sign up 😁

Feeling good

For weeks I have been so busy with everything that has to do with my work and with setting up and expanding my MLM business (Why Oils Canada).

My website is more than decent by now. I even have a pop-up screen to sign-up for my newsletter. I also can see how many people are visiting my website. And I added the option so that you can read my newsletter. I still have to add some content though. But that will come over time.

I also created and send out my first newsletter. I started with an email marketing platform (Sendlane) which didn’t work out. I had to start over 3 times because their editor just stopped working. First they didn’t know why, then it was because I just used  “strange” characters, then there was something else…. After 2 weeks (I think I have been extremely patient) I decided to change to ChimpMail. So nice. In a couple of days I made my newsletter and send it out, I made my sign-up form for Facebook and for my website. I created my thank-you form (when people sign up) and I deleted my account with Sendlane.

Now I am preparing myself for the market which I will attend saturday in Canmore (Ab). I am working on a pamphlet, sign-up sheet, sample’s, etc. I have attended markets before, but I wasn’t happy with the outcome from it so I just stopped instead of changing the way I was “selling” myself. Because I always had some bottles with Thieves household cleaner I just managed to get my costs covered, but that was basically it.  No customers or just interested people to keep in touch with.

So part of my new “ME”, I will attend a market once a month and get email addresses for my newsletters and certainly some new customers.

And I keep on using my little bottle “Build your dream” essential oil blend. That seems to work too.
